Maroela, is the Afrikaans spelling of Marula, and is the common name of the Scierocarya Birrea Tree. This tree is a much-favoured indigenous tree, for both medicinal and ritual purposes. Its fruits are widely eaten, by people and animals alike, and is said to have strong aphrodisiac properties. This lodging in Kruger National Park has several caravan camping sites each of which offers a different variety of attractions and activities. The facilities while excellent, are generally of a similar type.

Maroela Camp is situated about 4km (2.4 miles) from Orpen and Eastgate airport is situated a further 68km (42 miles) from Orpen gate. It is served by SA express with daily flights from Johannesburg to Cape Town.
Night drives enable you to take part in the nocturnal activities of Kruger's secretive creatures, in the company of experienced guides and trackers. Guided bush walks, in the company of trained field guides with backup rifles will take groups of up to 8 people out into the bush for a few hours. The most picturesque of all the routes falls along the Timbavati River.
The riverbed is an excellent place to find Leopard. Game can also be viewed at the Rabelais Dam. Maroela Camp is suitable for all year round visits. The summer months (September to April) are hot, (summer temperatures can climb above 40 C / 104 F). Sporadic summer thunder showers will cool the air and settle the dust, and will be disipate as fast as they appeared, promising not to spoil your Kruger National Park vacation. Winters, (May to August) are warm and mild, (17-22 C / 60-70 F), although visitors going on night-drives will need to pack warm clothing. Maroela Camp is situated about 4km (2.49 miles) from Orpen and is 500 metres (0.31 miles) west of Tamboti. Visitors to Maroela Camp are required to report to the reception area at Orpen before proceeding to the camp. Eastgate Airport is situated about 68km (42.26 miles) from Orpen gate and is served by SA express with daily flights in and out from Johannesburg.
